5/24/02 Update:

Everything is 100% fine, and Kyle is 100% normal.  Thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts. His "soft spot" is quite a bit smaller than what Brittany's was just after birth.  This caused us to have some concern, since we couldn't find it right away.  However, part of the problem was that we simply didn't know exactly what to look for and where (other than his head)!  The doctor has assured us that everything is perfectly fine with his "soft spot", which is currently about 1cm.  Again, thank you for your supporting email, kind words, and of course, all your prayers.  Have a wonderful, safe and peaceful memorial holiday weekend, and I'll talk to you all Tuesday via my evening report.

I plan to resume my normal schedule next week Tuesday (After the holiday on Monday).

The U.S. markets are closed Monday for Memorial Day.

5/23/02 Update:

We are taking little Kyle to the Doctor tomorrow (Friday 5/24) for his first checkup.  We have only one concern, which does worry us at this time.  We are unable to find his "soft spot" on top of his head.  All normal babies have this at birth, and it generally remains there for up to 2 years, but can close as early as nine months.  However, 1 out of 2500 babies do not have a soft-spot at birth.  This can be a problem because the brain is still growing.  This condition is known as "craniosynostosis".  It affects males twice as often as females.   We hope and pray he does not have this.  If he does however, it can be corrected by surgery.

I have read that it may occasionally be difficult to detect the "soft spot" in some babies because of a tough, fibrous cartilage membrane that develops over the soft spot as it is closing. This membrane can make it difficult to determine if the soft spot is there at all.  At the hospital the doctors gave Kyle a standard examination, as they do all newborns.  Nothing abnormal (or remarkable) was noted.  We hope that they were able to detect the "soft spot" and that we are just not experienced enough to find it.   I'll update everyone tomorrow when we return from the Doctors.  We have an appointment at 10:00am (Friday 5/24/02).   Thank you.

My reports will resume on Tuesday of next week (after the Memorial holiday on Monday).

5/22/02 Update:

Kim is now allowed to come home and is doing much better!   I will be taking her home here shortly this morning!   Last night she had a little trouble, but was able to get better sleep than the night before.

5/21/02 Update:
* I apologize for the delay everyone, but Kim has been in quite a bit of pain, which I have been helping her with (unfortunately, there isn't much us men can do, other than offer and provide 100% of our  unconditional support).  I also had trouble getting everything hooked up here at the hospital.  I finally had to go and retrieve my old lap-top, once Kim was comfortable.  For some reason, I couldn't establish a connection with my Sony.  It looked like it would get dialed in ok, but I couldn't do anything online.   Anyway,  here is the scoop now that I am online.  I am still at the hospital with Kim.  She has been in more pain this time (than with Brittany).  The Doctor said all the placenta did not come out, so they had to go in and remove it, which caused her to lose a lot of blood.  She also had an operation, that, combined with excess bleeding is causing her a great deal of weakness, discomfort and pain.  Her Hemoglobin has dropped to 7.8.  She is in recovery now, and is doing better, but I will be glad when her blood count improves.

We both got about 2 hours of sleep total last night as well.  The helicopter pad is near our room, and they had several helicopter landings last night.  In addition, the nurses come in about every hour or two to check up on everything.
